Between April and June 2020, petMaxi donated 120 tons of pet food to support animal welfare associations during the pandemic. A total of 6,000 bags weighing 20kg each were distributed among 106 associations across the country. The delivery management and logistics were handled by Animalife, an organization specializing in this area.
Luis Guilherme, CEO of petMaxi, explains that it would be much easier and there would be more support if companies like theirs didn't have to pay a 23% VAT on these donations to the associations. For every €10,000 in donations, the government collects €2,300 in VAT. This is a situation that needs to be reconsidered for the benefit of the associations and the country.
This is just one of the measures taken by petMaxi since the beginning of the pandemic. In early April, they made a monetary donation of €7,000 to the Portuguese Red Cross. Additionally, they raised over €6,500 through a value-driven marketing campaign, where sales made until May 30th in their brands HappyOne Premium and HappyOne Mediterraneum also contributed to this cause.
